The "Biblioteche Nelle Scuole" (libraries in schools) project, promoted by MPI, started in May 2004 and is now already almost completed. It has the aim of improving the access to information in school libraries, by developing competences in information retrieval of the participants. The project involves 800 Italian schools which belong to about 120 networks of school libraries. In such a complicated organizational environment, CILEA received the task of teaching school librarians, managing trouble-ticketing systems, designing and managing the Virtual Reference Desk (VRD) and the MetaOPAC of the libraries and the archive of the digital material of the schools taking part to the project.
